#1 Secret to Lowering Vinyl Siding Costs

Why spend more and get less? Vinyl Siding Costs a fortune for what it is already and a few companies are cleaning up selling their "brand name". The truth is that there is a lab that tests Vinyl Siding and lets you know what is high quality, for FREE! Are you willing to do a little bit of work? You could save yourself THOUSANDS of dollars when you buy vinyl siding.

"I thought that Vinyl Siding that Costs More Must Be Better, I was wrong".

What’s the Difference Between $3 sqft Vinyl Siding v. $6 sqft Vinyl Siding?

Close to $6,000 for a typical home.

Who is this mysterious benefactor that is going to help save you $6000? The Vinyl Siding Institute, http://www.vinylsiding.org/ VSI is trade group that promotes vinyl siding and performs multi-year tests on siding. Remember that your salesman is probably not going to tell you if your vinyl siding does is not certified. Your first question should be.

Is this siding Certified ASTM D3679?

So What is Certified Vinyl Siding?

The VSI lab does multi-year studies on Vinyl Siding to test how it stands up in different weather conditions. The testing they do gives them data to determine if the siding meets the ASTM D3679 certificate requirements.

The ASTM D3679 quality certificate includes these measurements,

  • Impact Resistance,Weatherability, Windload

  • Shrinkage and Expansion

  • Distortion of the Surface

  • Width, Length, and thickness verification

Color Retention (no noticable fading over the years this is a separate certificate ASTM D6864 or D7251)

If installed properly certified vinyl siding will withstand sun, rain, and 110 mph winds!

Want to Pay more?

If you can get guaranteed quality for a $3/sqft brand v.s. a $6/sqft brand of vinyl siding why would you pay more? Do you really care if your neighbors are more impressed with Crane or Certainteed siding vs. Sears Weatherbeater, Alside, or Georgia Pacific? It is far more importatant that you get siding you like and that it is installed properly.

At the vinyl siding certification site you will find products described like the one below. My suggestion is that you only consider siding with the additional ASTM D6864 or D7521 color fastness certificate. This guarantees that the siding has been tested to not fade signifigantly over time.
